According to Garr Reynolds living in a world which often thinks in terms of absolutes — "this is good, that is bad" gives us no alternative but to pick either of the two. (http://presentationzen.blogs.com/presentationzen/2005/09/whats_good_powe.html) When it comes to presentations we should not think in terms of good or bad rather in terms of whether it is appropriate or not. How do we differentiate whether it’s appropriate or inappropriate? Firstly matching design to purpose is important, meaning it’s helpful to know what audience to cater to, and whether it’s for entertainment, educational or professional purposes. The key to making a successful presentation is to make it simple as possible avoid using fancy animations, nothing more than one graphic image or chart per slide use the same colours and fonts throughout the slides. When it comes to texts make sure to facilitate things for the readers by using readable texts, fonts and clear visible backgrounds. When preparing slides make sure to use light backgrounds so that even an audience with colour blindness could observe the slides without any difficulty. Slides should contain minimal information and include points which the conductor would elaborate on.
Below are some examples of good PowerPoint slides
The presentation we conducted last week seemed rather in accordance to what is mentioned above, hence there isn’t much emendation required, however some slides divulged a tad too much information and would have seemed both unprepared and unprofessional on his part. A couple of images also contained texts which seemed illegible on glance. Nevertheless with respect to what is mentioned above the presentation was indeed eye catching.
